Sixto Rodriguez (Pronounced Seex-tuh rodriguez) is a Folk rock musician from from Detroit who made music in the 60's & 70's who is thankfully becoming more popular & well known in America. But is still relatively unknown.I only found out about him a month or 2 ago reading an article about films in the Cannes film festival. In the article they mentioned a movie Called Searching for Sugar man.I looked up the movie and it sounded right up my alley so i looked up the Sixto rodriguez up on Youtube. And when i first heard just a few of his song my jaw hit the floor.I was so stunned about how freaking good his songs were They blew my mind & brought tears to my eyes.
The first song i listened to was sugar man (of course).and i loved it.
but the more i looked the better they got.with songs like Crucify your mind
& Forget it
So after couple hours of listening to his music & researching him i found my all time favorite.
Cause
Well thats all i have to say for now.if you liked these song i suggest you buy both of his album Cold Fact & Coming from reality they are well worth it.
I was listening to some music today and i got to the song Shotdown by One of Canada's best rock bands April wine.Which has always been my favorite song of they'rs for years now.April wine has had several hit like Roller,I like to rock & Sign of the gypsy queen. But this song was never a hit.and i never understood why.
I found this video a few months back claiming it was in fact the very 1st heavy metal song. And ill be damned if it isn't.now for people who dont know when most people talk about the very 1st heavy metal song they say songs like Helter Skelter, summertime blues (Blue Cheer) or born to be wild where the 1st.But this song came out before any of those. The band is Bitter Creek the Song is Plastic Thunder.Check it out.
Got a great one for you today. From new york city.Dust.By far one of the best if not the best band in the underground scene from the 70's.This was also the 1st band of Marc Bell Who would later join The Ramones & change his name to Marky Ramone. They were signed to Kama sutra records and made 2 albums.S/T Dust in 1971 & Hard attack in 1972.Both albums are absolute classics in my eyes but the 2nd i think is better.
Now another thing i love about the album is the artwork.originally done by Frank frazetta.Titled snow giants.now he did lots of great album covers like Molly hatchet's Flirtin with disaster and theyr self titled album.and Nazareth's expect no mercy.
When i think of all the great underground bands from the 1960s & 1970's i don't think and band would be more perfect for a first post than Germany's Gift.and no song better by them than drugs.Check it out.
